Is your A/C leaking water? While some condensation caused by the dehumidifying process is normal, if your air conditioner has pooling or excessively leaking water it might be a sign of something more problematic. A leak has several possible causes, all of which should be addressed as soon as possible to ensure your air conditioner unit continues to work effectively and efficiently.

1. Check for a broken pump
An A/C leaking water might be caused by a broken condenser pump. To test for this, pour water in the condenser pan and check to see if the pump is capable of removing the excess. If not, check to see whether the power of the pump is good. If it is, than either the motor or the condenser itself is in need of repair and you should consult with a local HVAC professional to determine the next corrective measures for your unit.

2. Improper installation
Air conditioning systems that are improperly installed frequently leak water. Improper installation can cause the unit to not be level or have too much pressure causing water to leak and pool. If your unit is level, check for any closed vents in your household. The added pressure of closed vents can sometimes cause your A/C valves to leak.

3. Blocked drain hole
The most common cause of A/C leaking water is a blocked drain hole. This can be a quick fix; simply, check to see if any dirt or other debris has clogged your drain hole or its tubing. After removing any possible blockage, water should properly exit the condenser pan.

4. Cold outside temperatures
When temperatures outside begin to change and become too cold, you may end up with excess water build-up that causes pooling because of its inability to quickly evaporate. Once the warm weather returns, the pooling should naturally cease.
