A fire that begins in one area of your home will spread quickly – usually within just a few minutes — and grow into a dangerous inferno that creates extreme heat and toxic smoke. Because the potential for structural damage and loss of life are simply too horrific to consider, you as a homeowner should make plans to add a sprinkler system or upgrade your existing equipment.
Sprinkler system heads are automatically triggered by fire-specific temperatures, and only one or two sprinklers can quickly extinguish or contain a blaze in the room where it started. In addition, sprinklers use about six times less water than a fire hose, making them significantly less harmful to your property than the deluge from fire department hoses.
James Lane Air Conditioning & Plumbing, Inc. has assembled a Fire Protection Services Team of experts who can advise you about the best practices of sprinkler system installation, testing, modification and service. Each member of the squad’s ongoing training provides you with a higher level of service in all phases of protection.
A system’s multiple sprinkler heads are connected to a complex system of steel or fire-resistant thermoplastic pipes that are hidden behind the walls or ceilings of various rooms. There are three categories of fire sprinkler systems.
- The Wet Pipe System uses pressurized steel pipes full of water that is released immediately to provide a fast reaction. NOTE: Wet Pipe Systems may be unsuitable in an application where the pipes may freeze.
- The Dry Pipe System uses compressed air to fill the pipes with highly pressurized water. This system is slower to react than the wet system, and the cost is usually higher. But the pipes are not subject to freezing.
- The Pre-Action System is triggered by a smoke detector or a heat detecting device that sends the water into the pipes, similar to the Wet Pipe System.
Please be sure to contact James Lane Air Conditioning & Plumbing Co. to determine the best fire sprinkler system for your residence, or to inspect your existing system.
